somatic exercises

“If you can feel it and sense it, you can change it.”  -Thomas Hanna, PhD
Hanna Somatic Education (HSE), or Clinical Somatic Education (CSE), is a comprehensive system for changing muscle function developed by the late neuromuscular pioneer, Thomas Hanna PhD. It is an intelligent approach to the re-education of the body/brain through the first person experience of the body, with the perspective that human beings are ultimately self-sensing, self-monitoring, and self-changing. This re-calibration of the brain to muscles, increases range of motion and mobility and can restore alignment and optimum movement mechanics from the center outwards. Restoring motion to the torso gives better movement mechanics to joints in the rest of the body. New resting length in the muscles and motion allows bones to move to a more optimum alignment changing posture. Better posture and more motion gives positive impact to every system of the body including cardiovascular, blood pressure, digestion, lymphatic health, oxygen intake and more.  HSE is available in a private (hands-on session), online or phone consultations, or group classes (workshop) setting.
Here is a quick glimpse at what you can expect at a somatic education private session with Laura Gates.
